BICSI Fall 2019: What You’ll See from Panduit and General Cable

BICSI’s annual Fall Conference and Exhibition is less than a week away and we’re packing our bags, double-checking our travel plans and brushing up on our card and dice skills. We have a lot in store for Las Vegas, and have many, many reasons for you to stop by the PanGen booth to see us!

Get to Know PanGen

As always, Panduit and General Cable will be sharing a booth and sharing our expertise on all things copper related. The PanGen partnership is 15 years in the making, providing contractors and end users with an end-to-end cabling and connectivity solution, featuring the industry’s smallest Category 6A copper cable (0.250” diameter). That cable is recognized in the industry as having the best thermal properties to manage the heat rise from Power over Ethernet. Devices like security cameras and wireless access points are already on the network, so using PoE to power them via the same copper cable just makes sense. One of our most popular demonstrations at every BICSI shows the temperature rise that occurs in cable that is running PoE, and how this cable manages temperature rise.

From the Panduit side of the partnership, look for a myriad of connectivity choices on display. Everything from standard, shuttered, and angled jacks to the ever-popular Field Term Plug, along with patching solutions will be on display.

Going the Distance

Among the newer products that Panduit will be demonstrating is the PoE Extender, which delivers data and PoE beyond the 100-meter channel. This innovative solution extends PoE up to 600 meters! This solution is ideal for applications like remote security cameras or building entrances that are more than 100 meters from the nearest TR. Check it out first hand in the booth.

A New Fix for CyberSecurity

Panduit will also be introducing SmartKeeper, a simple solution to a big problem. SmartKeeper block-out devices block open USB and RJ45 ports to prevent unauthorized access. A single tool is used with all devices, making it easier for the right personnel to have access to the tool when it’s needed. Stop by the booth for a demo.

Check out the AV Solutions

Taking center stage in the booth will be Panduit’s new end-to-end AV solution, featuring active devices from Atlona, a Panduit company, built on a Panduit infrastructure. We’ll be ready to demo and answer questions about the Atlona OmniStream AV over IP system, Velocity Control, and Atlona’s SW-510W, a BYOD switcher that allows wireless connection from any presentation device, including phones, tablets, and laptops, with no dongles, apps, or connectors needed! Infrastructure components like cabling, wall-mount cabinets, Above Floor Raceway, table boxes and wall boxes round out the AV demo.

Cable Management Dreams

If you haven’t seen Panduit’s newest vertical cable managers, you will want to stop by the booth just to see them! We’ll be showing both our standard and enhanced PatchRunner Vertical Managers, which both feature integrated push-to-close doors, optimized manager fingers, and more space. Lightweight and easy to install, the doors are quickly gaining popularity in the market. The enhanced version features options that allow for zero RU patching to be mounted within the cable manager, for the ultimate in space optimization within the telecom room. These cable managers will transform your TR nightmares!

A Powerful Power Solution

We will also be demonstrating our expanding line of Power Distribution Units and accessories. The SmartZone PDUs have features that go beyond power distribution, to provide local and remote monitoring of aggregate power and environmental and physical access data.

The Full Network Infrastructure Suite

Rounding out the display will be components for connecting the factory floor and data center solutions, showcasing the portfolio breadth that makes Panduit the partner of choice for so many contractors and end users.

Beyond what you want to see from us, we want to see YOU! Conversations with so many of you give us insight into what types of issues you face on a daily basis and helps stoke the innovation fires, to figure out new solutions. We love hearing first-hand about what people are struggling with, the successes they’ve had, and the ways they’re using our products.

What to Know Before You Go to BICSI Winter in Orlando

5 Reasons to Visit Panduit and General Cable at BICSI Winter in Orlando

Visit PanGen Booth #709 at BICSI Winter in Orlando

BICSI Winter, taking place January 20 – 24 at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., is the show for people who design, install, and run networks or network-connected devices and systems. So it makes perfect sense that our best-in-class infrastructure products should take center stage.

Here are the top five attractions that Panduit and General Cable – or PanGen – has planned for Booth #709 at BICSI Winter:

1. POE Extenders

Our PoE Extenders are ideal for remote applications such as security cameras or entry ways that are outside of the 100m reach of the channel. In fact, they can deliver power and data up to 2,000 feet. As buildings become smarter and more automated they present more opportunities for our partners, and these innovative cable and connectors meet all critical requirements for PoE delivery.

2. Vertical Cable Management

Rising real estate costs combined with limited space in telecom rooms has created the dual challenge of fitting in as much equipment as possible yet still offering sufficient cable capacity.

Part of a high-density cabling solution that manages high performance network cabling and equipment in less area than required by conventional cable management systems, PatchRunner 2 Vertical Manager can be installed by one person and routes 17% more cables on average.

In head-to-head testing, PatchRunner 2 Vertical Manager took 7 minutes less to install than competitive offerings. You won’t see that kind of dueling excitement at Harry Potter World – and they have wands.

3. Fiber Connectivity

Optical fiber is the only transmission medium capable of supporting the explosive growth of Internet-connected devices and applications.

Panduit’s new Splice-On Connector, paired with the Sumitomo Quantum™ Fusion Splicer, helps to future-proof networks with high bandwidth and high-speed transmission, and makes quick work of connecting LC or SC connectors – whether for running fiber to the desktop or connecting telecommunications rooms to the main data center.

4. Next Generation Category 6A Cable

At 0.25” diameter, this latest offering from General Cable and Panduit delivers 10G data transmission for data-hungry applications, in a tiny package, that is easy to install and improves pathway capacity. This small but mighty cable is the industry’s best at managing Power over Ethernet and offers the best EMI immunity in an unshielded cable.

5. Intelligent Power Distribution Units

SmartZone G5 PDUs offer maximized outlet density, and give customers the ability to monitor power consumption, environmental factors and security at the server cabinet level. There are more than 70 different configurations to meet the needs of any installation.

Since 2004, contractors and end-users have counted on Panduit and General Cable for a PanGen end-to-end network infrastructure cabling and connectivity solution to meet the needs of their most demanding projects. With BICSI Winter happening January 20-24 in Orlando – and 2019 marking the fifteenth year of the PanGen partnership – the time was right to chat with both Kayla Bedford, who is Strategic Alliance Manager at Panduit and Dale Langhans, her counterpart at General Cable, to hear what PanGen has planned at BICSI Winter 2019.

Fifteen years is quite some time. Tell us, how has the partnership evolved over time and what’s new that readers should know about?

It’s hard to believe that Panduit and General Cable have been bringing PanGen solutions to market for 15 years. We are the longest partnership in the industry, and are only getting stronger!

We have a shared vision and belief that a properly designed and implemented cabling infrastructure is fundamental for every business and institution – especially in this era of new high-bandwidth applications.

We’re all about giving our customers the network performance and reliability that they need, and we do that with high-performance infrastructure solutions. We take a lot of pride in knowing that we’re helping people confidently spec, quote, install and certify their network infrastructure. Our structured cabling solutions make it easy to deliver new services, lower network maintenance costs and increase efficiency.

And the great news for our customers is that today we are stronger than ever. The recent Prysmian acquisition of General Cable brings additional strengths as a result of Prysmian’s global footprint and increased fiber offerings. Prysmian is the largest producer of wire and cable products, globally!

That’s great. So Panduit and General Cable will be at BISCI. What can visitors look forward to seeing and learning about?

We will be featuring the industry’s smallest Cat 6A copper cable! The award-winning solution delivers the smallest cable diameter (0.250”) for improved pathway capacity and easier installation. Two versions of the cable are available: One has a solid barrier tape and the other has a barrier tape that is cut into segments of varying length for the best EMI immunity in an unshielded cable.

That cable is recognized in the industry as the best for delivering Power over Ethernet to things like security cameras, access points and desktop phones, which are already on the network, so it’s logical that they’re powered via the same Ethernet cable. We’ll be showing visitors how the cable manages the temperature rise that is typical with PoE.

And, speaking of PoE, Panduit will also be demonstrating a product that was recently introduced that extends PoE reach for remote applications. Think a security camera on top of a building or in a parking lot, or access control at an entry gate or door. With this new solution, we can extend data and power to those applications.

Also, being featured will be our full data center, digital building, and telco room solutions – cabinets and racks, patching, jacks, plugs, AV, fiber optics, pathways, power supply – pretty much our end-to-end solution! And, we will also highlight our industrial connectivity for those connecting equipment on the plant floor. As we mentioned, there will be a lot going on!

Another solution we will be featuring is the infrastructure that is the foundation for the PoE LED lighting solution at the Waldinger Corporation. This PanGen project was recognized during BICSI Fall with a Platinum Award (the highest possible award) in the annual Cabling Innovators Awards. This solution delivers power and data over twisted pair cable to LED lighting. The application significantly improved lighting performance, as well as control and intelligence.

It sounds like BICSI is a pretty big deal for PanGen, yes?

It really is. It is a great opportunity to connect with our core audience, to hear first-hand about their opportunities and obstacles. Of course, it’s a great for showcasing our products, but we also love hearing first-hand about what people are struggling with, the successes they’ve had, and the innovative ways they’re using our products. This opens up great conversation right on the show floor where we can immediately share product application solutions that covert our customer’s obstacles into real-time answers.

What would you suggest readers headed to BICSI check out? What are the must-see happenings on and off the show floor?

Three things come to mind: First, if you’ll be in town on Sunday January 20 for the pre-conference seminars, we suggest attending the talk “The Fiber Formula – Fact, Fiction & Fantasy” from 1:00- 4:30 at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, where BICSI takes place. A panel of experts including David Asta, Data Center Applications Engineer at Panduit, will be discussing industry best practices and standards for fiber design and installation.

We also recommend Shelly Palmer’s keynote address on Tuesday morning at 8:45am. Shelly is CEO of The Palmer Group, a strategic advisory firm, that focused on machine learning and data driven decision-making. It should be interesting to hear.

And last, but not least, don’t forget to stop by our booth! We will look forward to seeing you there!
